Rhythm Events in our community

Everything is Music
Friday, August 20, 6-8 pm
CCB Plaza, downtown Durham
This was a wonderfully successful event:
Perfect weather; set in the center of downtown Durham; good set up and support by Durham Parks and Rec; great audience participation AND a really good turnout of playful folks of all ages!

Here's a few photos of the amazing event. You can click this link to see more photos!

Here's what we did:
Using the Rumi poem Where Everything is Music, the following arts organizations will collaborate to offer this exciting performance and participatory multi-media arts presentation:

Triangle Playback Theatre - improv theatre

Triangle SoundPainting Orchestra - improv music

Music Explorium - Rockin' Recycled Percussion making and a Community Drum Circle - all ages

We brought lots of hand drums and hand percussion to play on, and folks brought their own or made their own. What fun!!

Everything is Music was the title of our 3rd Friday Art Walk scheduled by Durham Parks and Rec for this coming August 20th at CCB Plaza in Downtown Durham. Using this entire Rumi poem as a springboard, we collaborated with Triangle Sound Painting, Triangle Playback Theatre to offer this exciting performance and participatory multi-media art presentation. It was a FREE event.

Your festival participants will get to create their own creative-reuse percussion marching band instruments, learn some funky marching beats and march and play in our Rockin' Reused Percussion Parade. It's a lively community expression of music! And a great idea for creative and sustainable reuse. Participants use reused/recycled materials to create personalized percussion drums, shakers, guiros, kazoos, whistles or anything you can march and make music with. Make a shaker from a can or tube . . . a drum from a detergent bottle . . . a whistle from a cone. We bring all kinds of resonant reused/recycled materials for instrument making and for decorating these fun instruments. We lead the parade and everybody gets to strut their stuff! We bring a van load of resonant recycled/reused materials and fun materials to decorate instruments. Our facilitators make it easy for you - we handle all set up, clean up, and supervision of our tent, plus we lead kids and adults in instrument making and rhythm games throughout the day.

We give a special thanks to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and RTP Signs for donating wonderful reuse materials for drum making.

Don't want a parade? How about an all-ages interactive drum circle?
